2 Months Until Entry Deadline|Discover the Charm of Echigo Country Trail NEW

The entry deadline is now just two months away. If you are considering joining the Echigo Country Trail, how are your preparations going?

This is the time when entries gradually start to increase. In previous years, we sometimes extended the deadline, but there will be no extension this year. As always, entries tend to surge as the deadline approaches. If you’ve been thinking about it, now is the perfect time to make your decision.

■ What is Echigo Country Trail?

Echigo Country Trail (also known as “ECHIKAN”) is a trail running event held in the satoyama landscape of the Oguni area in Nagaoka City, Niigata, Japan.

Starting from the gentle scenery of the Oguni basin, the course takes you through rice fields, satoyama hills, ridge trails, small villages, and back into the mountains. The constantly changing terrain and scenery create a natural rhythm, making the race both enjoyable and engaging.

Another highlight is the warm support from local residents and the friendly atmosphere at the aid stations.

■ Choose Your Course

We offer multiple race categories to suit different levels:

63km (Main Course)
For intermediate to advanced runners who want a full mountain experience

22km
For beginners to intermediate runners who are getting comfortable with trail running

2.5km
Perfect for first-time trail runners and families

Whether you want to try trail running for the first time or challenge yourself with a long-distance race, there is a course for you.

■ What Makes ECHIKAN Special

The biggest charm of ECHIKAN is its authentic satoyama atmosphere. A diverse course, scenic ridge views, aid stations run by local communities, and warm encouragement from residents along the way— runners and locals share the same paths and the same experience.

Everyone involved—runners and supporters alike—plays a leading role in this event.

■ Beginner-Friendly Environment

If you are new to trail running, don’t worry. The time limits are set at a comfortable level:

  • 63km: 11 hours 30 minutes
  • 22km: 5 hours

Each aid station has a cut-off time. If you are unable to make it in time, or need to retire due to injury or physical condition, please stay at the aid station. A vehicle will transport you safely back to the finish area.

You can enjoy the race at your own pace while taking in the scenery and atmosphere.

■ Access & Shuttle Bus

The venue is accessible by car.
We also plan to operate shuttle buses, making it easy to join from distant locations.
