Echigo Country Trail 2027 Will Be a Little Different — But Still True to Its Roots! NEW
Hello, everyone! It’s been a while! Staff K is back with more stories and thoughts about Echigo Country Trail!
This year, I’ll be sharing all sorts of things about the race, Oguni, and the surrounding area. I hope you’ll enjoy following along!
First of all, we’re excited to announce that Echigo Country Trail 2027 will take place on Sunday, June 13, 2027! This will be our 10th edition — a very special milestone for us. Registration, including entries from overseas, opened on November 1, 2026.
Our race has always been proudly local, with a wonderfully down-to-earth, rural atmosphere. And now, we’re celebrating our 10th edition! You might expect something completely different for such a special anniversary. But we’re not going to pretend to be something we’re not! (That doesn’t mean we can’t — we just don’t want to! Haha!)
We’ll stay true to what makes Echigo Country Trail special, while coming up with things we can do to make the race even more enjoyable for everyone.
We’re still working on the details, and we’ll share new plans on our website as they take shape. So, stay tuned!
By the way, there’s a little something new about our traditional post-race meal, too! As we announced earlier, a local company will be helping us plan and provide it this year. For more details, check out our October 6 article!
The First 10 Years — and the Next 10!
Although we’re celebrating our 10th edition, Echigo Country Trail is still a work in progress. We owe the journey so far to everyone involved: our runners, race staff, volunteers, and the local community who support the event behind the scenes. We truly appreciate every one of you. Thank you!
Our staff see 2027 as the starting point for the next 10 years. With more than 400 races now held across Japan, we know runners have plenty of events to choose from. We don’t want to stand still. We’ll stay true to our roots while continuing to make small changes, hoping to remain a race that runners choose year after year.
We’re looking forward to seeing you, and our team is steadily preparing for race day!

One last thing — we’d love for you to come and experience Echigo Country Trail! We may not be the fanciest race around, but the countryside has its own special charm. Oguni is a rural area in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. It borders Ojiya, Kashiwazaki, and Tokamachi, and each village has its own character and atmosphere. Here’s where Oguni is located! When you come to Echigo Country Trail, why not take some time to explore the neighboring towns, too?
