The Echigo Country Trail Executive Committee Secretariat is managed by Team Oguni, with the support of local residents and related organizations.
Team Oguni is dedicated to enhancing the many unique charms of Oguni Town, a rural area of Nagaoka City facing challenges like depopulation and aging, to create a vibrant and thriving community.

Our Mission

Oguni, located in the south-central part of Niigata Prefecture, is a region of abundant natural beauty, surrounded by the Sekita and Yagokeyama mountain ranges, with the Shibumigawa River, part of the Shinano River system, flowing through its center. The name “Oguni” is thought to originate from its unique geography, nestled within these mountains.

However, like many rural areas, Oguni is grappling with an aging population, an increase in elderly residents living alone, and a steady decline in population, leading to its designation as a depopulated area.
In response to these challenges, Team Oguni was established by the active generations in our community to explore what we can pass on to future generations.

Through trail running, we aim to showcase Oguni’s charm and create an event that both participants and local residents can enjoy. I see Oguni as a rough gem, covered in moss. Through Team Oguni, we strive to polish this gem until it shines brightly once again.
