Winter is in full swing across Japan, with a persistent west-to-east winter pressure pattern. The sunny skies on the Pacific side make me a bit envious! Meanwhile, here in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, the weather has been keeping us on our toes with a mix of “rain,” “sleet,” “snow,” and the occasional fleeting “sunny break.” This year truly feels like the classic Japan Sea winter weather we haven’t seen in a while.

Now, onto some exciting news about the Echigo Country Trail 2025—preparations are moving at an unusually fast pace this year! We’ve published the event details, so be sure to check them out.

Here are the two key changes from last year:

• To let participants hear directly from the passionate Race Director, we’ve moved the 63 km opening ceremony to race day!
• In the interest of smoother check-ins, we’ve eliminated the mandatory gear check during registration. While this does place greater responsibility on participants, we kindly ask for your cooperation!
